Severe or disastrous outcome may be prevented by timely diagnosis of conditions such as

  1. acute appendicitis

  2. leaking cerebral aneurysm

  3. abdominal aortic aneurysm

  4. neonatal herpes

  5. pre-eclampsia

Damage from compromised oxygen and nutrient supply may be largely reversible with timely treatment of various conditions affecting the

  1. brain

  2. nerves

  3. eyes

  4. limbs

In some serious infections, severe hemorrhage and malignancies, earlier diagnosis and intervention may reduce the severity of the consequent injury
